Love One Another
Topic: Love Scripture: 1 John 4:7–4:12
Love one another
1 John 4:7-12
1 John 5:13 says “I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God that you may know that you have eternal life.”
In chapter 4, he identifies Christian love as perfect love and recaps and expands on what love proves about your faith, how we ought to love one another, and why we ought to love one another.
BIG IDEA: Love one another because it…
1. Proves your saved
7 Beloved, let us love one another, for love is from God, and whoever loves has been born of God and knows God. 8 Anyone who does not love does not know God, because God is love-
Transition: In John 13:34-35 “A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another. By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.” In 1 John, he says it’s really an old commandment but the new part is “as I have loved you.”
2. Proves itself in action
9 In this the love of God was made manifest among us, that God sent his only Son into the world, so that we might live through him. 10 In this is love, not that we have loved God but that he loved us and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins. Beloved, if God so loved us, we also ought to love one another.-
Bring life to people by sacrificially giving of yourself to others.
3. Proves God’s presence
12 No one has ever seen God; if we love one another, God abides in us and his love is perfected in us.
